Electric pick and carry crane goes to Scandinavia

Hird has supplied a Manitex Valla 50E pick and carry crane to specialist metals mining and processing company Eramet for use at one of its plants in Norway.

The mini crane will be used for changing components on three furnaces at the plant – replacing forklift trucks which had previously been used to carry out the task.

A key benefit of the Valla 50E pick and carry crane identified by Eramet was the fact that it was powered by a DC electric motor.

Industrial crane – improved lifting solution

Carl Cooper said: “The Valla crane delivers an improved lifting solution for the operational team. We are very pleased to support a global company like Eramet.

“It is a great opportunity to demonstrate the sustainability advantages of operating DC electric Valla pick and carry cranes, as well as their productivity and safety benefits.”

The Valla 50E pick and carry crane has a five-metre three-section telescopic boom. It has a maximum safe working load (SWL) of five tonnes and can lift 800kg at full boom extension.

Hydraulic fly jib – extra reach

The machine supplied to Eramet has also been fitted with a hydraulic fly jib providing an additional reach of 1.5 meters.

At just 1600mm wide the mini crane is ideal for working in confined spaces and, as an electric pick and carry crane, can be operated both indoors and outdoors.

The Valla 50E is one of a wide range of pick and carry cranes for sale through Hird, the UK and Ireland authorised dealer for Manitex Valla Cranes – from the Valla 22E, with a max SWL of 2.25t to the Valla 400E, with a max SWL of 40t.
